Pink Julep

I've lived in the South for over a month now and I've yet to drink a mint julep. Laurita reminded me of this fact while I was in DC visiting this past weekend for a wedding. I'm tempted to post pictures, but my friends are camera-shy and my camera wasn't working right all weekend. So you're off the hook for now Laura, MJ, Renee...you know who you are camera-phobic friends. Anyhoo...back to mint juleps. My limited experience with mint juleps started in one of my favorite spots, Disneyland! At some point before I could legally drink alcohol, I discovered the mint julep stand in New Orleans Square, next to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride (pronounced Care-ih-bee-in when saying "Pirates of the Caribbean," all other times you can say it ke-rib-eee-an...I don't know why, but that's how I do and you should too). Granted, Disney juleps didn't contain bourbon at that time, but they sure were tasty! I'd like to take the traditional mint julep and make it my own pink minty drinkie goodness, but without losing the charm and flavor of the original. So here's what I'm thinking - mixing pink champagne, bourbon, sugar, a smidge of peach brandy possibly, and mint. I'll have to try it. If you have other ideas, let me know.

In the meantime I'm going to leave you with a picture of my new colleague, he works outside of my window and he (there's no question it's a he) is very distracting. Children might want to cover their eyes.

I had my first sip of a mint julep this Labor Day when our DC friends were in town. Tasty! It was on River Street though - perhaps there's a good local bar that sells them cheaper. So did you taste one in DC then? If not, let's go meet up and have one!

I've lived here in the South for years and I have yet to have a Mint Julip. Just have a beer and relax. Remember, peer pressure is good for no one.

Thanks for the encouragement.
