Moon River Goes Green

Here's a big Friday shout out to Moon River Brewing Co for going green with their to-go cups. In case you didn't know, one of the nice things about Savannah is that you can get your drink to-go and stroll the streets happily chugging away. That's awesome for slow beer drinkers like me (well, when I'm not with child). According to Moon River's website they go through 52,000 to-go cups a year. Hello!?! That's a lot of cups. Now they're using plastic cups that are actually made from corn and are 100% compostable. Way to go Moon River! Maybe more restaurants will follow your lead...why don't we make all plastic out of corn???

Very cool!

The only problem with biopolymers (I believe this is what it's called when made from cornstarch or other similar biodegradables) is they don't withstand HEAT very well. Case in point: NG had the biopolymer utensils for a while, but the spoons kept twisting and getting melty in the soup, an forks and knives bent whenever you ate something hot. Still needs work, but it's a definite step in the right direction!

Gotta love the South and their open-container rules...
