Blackle?

Have you heard of the new google site called Blackle? No, it's not a racist search engine - at least I don't think it is. Supposedly google created this site as an alternative to their regular search engine, with the theory that a black screen with white text would save energy. Hmm... if google was really serious about saving energy by use of a black background, why didn't they just change their regular website to have a black screen? And why the racist name? If black-screened google is called Blackle, then white-screened google should be renamed Whitle. For more on energy-saving racist search engines go to www.blackle.com.

Blackle is not a project from Google. It's a wholly unassociated thing from some folks in Australia, it just uses the Google search engine.
The energy savings only works if you are using a CRT monitor, LCD monitors (the majority out there now) see no energy savings from black screens.
Turning your computer off for 15 minutes or putting it in sleep mode saves more energy than searching using a black screen.
Here's a useful wikipedia artile:

I stand corrected, thanks Bill for schoolin me on the blackle website. Obviously, I should have googled blackle and then I would have known better!
Which of course leads to the question - if we turn to Google for corroboration, what happens when Google starts lying?
Dun dah dun!!! (sorry; I just felt this needed to be added to the end of Bill's comment.) Hi, Bill! Hope you're well!!
If Google starts lying I will rename them Lygle.
