Who's Excited?

SATC hits theaters tomorrow folks, now who's excited? Like moi, totally! Made plans and purchased tickets to check it out tomorrow night. Nice thing about living in Savannah, so far SATC tickets for tomorrow have not sold out yet, unlike in some cities where wannabe Carries and Charlottes (etc) are lining up for the pic. Kinda feelin like rushing out to Blockbuster to rent the last season just to refresh my memory of where things left off. Hmm... sounds like a plan!

Anyhow, sorry for all the silence lately. I was away in DC for Memorial Day weekend visiting girlfriends in DC. What started off as a quick trip to do some baby shopping turned into a baby blast weekend with close friends and even a dinner/baby shower thrown together by DC mom extraordinaire Laurita. Such good, generous people I have for friends. Count me lucky. I also got to spend some quality time with some of my favorite toddlers - Alexander (the Great) and the oh so talkative Grey. Adorable, I miss everyone already!

Alrighty, I'm going to get my SATC on. I suggest you do the same.

Doing Time in PayPal Purgatory

I apologize in advance for the long rant below - somehow when a website does me wrong I feel the need to publicly vent.

How long does it take to update your mailing address and phone number on the PayPal website? It should take a matter of minutes. If the system works correctly.

Paypal prides itself on being secure. Soooo secure that they make you confirm that you are indeed the account holder before you can make certain changes to your profile. Their method of doing this involves calling you and then you have to give them a confirmation number. This is where I ran into trouble. The only number that they gave as an option to call was my old work number. Great. It didn't give me the option of my current phone number (even though I had it listed as my home phone and the primary contact number). GRRRRR! The other option was to contact me by phone at a specific address, but the only address they gave me as an option was my old address that I was trying to remove. Confused yet? Yeah, it shouldn't be this hard. I'm pretty adept at navigating websites, even ones that aren't so user friendly. After trying multiple times to resolve this online, I noticed a phone number that you can call to update your profile through customer service. Long story short it took 2 representatives and a half hour to remove an address and a phone number from my profile. Moral of the story: not sure there is one, but PayPal either needs smarter customer service folks or they need to sort out these bugs in their system.

Birds of a feather

As a mom-to-be, I've been granted access to the wonderful world of online shopping for babies. So fun! Of course I'm mildly obsessed with decorating the nursery and along with that comes the quest for the perfect mobile. Nothing too childish, but nothing to adult either. Something modern/cool but also fun for a kid. I'd seen some good ones, but none that fit with the bedding, room color, etc. Until now. Here is The Mobile. I think. I'm pretty sure. Yeah, it's bought.

DIY Kelly Bag

For the budget minded fashionista do-it-yourselfer, or if you're just bored and you like cute little paper handbags...go to the Hermes website (so cute) and click on "travel the world of Hermes." Click on "I want it I'll have it." Pick the bag you like and follow the instructions to obtain an adorable little Kelly bag. What a cheery way to perk up your desk! I'm so down with it. I think I'll make some this afternoon. I'm not sure, but they could be really cute party favor bags...or if you have a little girl, a perfect bag for dollie.

Simply Good Curry

I've been on a curry kick lately. I made this awesome recipe for Chicken Curry Salad from a blog called Simply Recipes and Chris and I have been eating it for a couple days now. The first night I served it warm (we couldn't wait for it to cool, we were starved) over couscous with a green salad. Awesome. Next day I had it cold with couscous. Summery goodness. Then Chris took couscous, the chicken salad, lettuce, some shredded cheddar cheese (cheese? yeah, that's what I said but he swears it was good), added some extra mayo, olive oil and a dash of hot sauce, and threw it all in a tortilla - ta da, chicken curry wraps. It just doesn't get old. Now I'm dying to try the latest curry recipe to hit the blog, Mango Chicken Curry. Oh yeah, baby...bring on the mangos! Anyone else have good curry recipes to try? (ps...for you veggies out there, I bet these recipes would be great if you substituted fried tofu or tempeh, yum!)
Photo from Simply Recipes, although my curry salad looked just as good!

Paypal loves me

Pregnancy has turned me into a shopaholic. Wait, no strike that. I already had a problem. At least I'm a bargain hunter though! Yesterday I was inspired to buy some tan-n-a-can, a brand I hadn't heard of but apparently the stars rave about. I love celebrity endorsements. It doesn't take much to inspire me. Nice weather, white skin, a friend talking about fake tanning in prep for her florida keys trip (me=totally jealous), our upcoming trip to Duck, NC and of course said celeb endorsements... all that combined lead me to the internet, which lead me to Xen-Tan (which I got for "cheap" through hsn.com). We'll see how that works out.

This morning I finally got Chris' undivided attention to make a decision on baby bedding. Such things are important you know. How am I to choose a nursery color if I don't know what the bedding is going to look like. So I provided him with my top 10 choices and we quickly narrowed it down to two. One cost $179 for the crib bedding set, the other cost a mere $39 at Walmart. Both were equally cute. We went for the Walmart deal. I pretty much despise Walmart, I'm much more a Target girl myself...but in this case I made an exception. Birds, trees, fruit, cute colors, mod - totally bought. We should get it next week. Here's hoping it's as cute in person. (PS... We're having a BOY!!!)

Last and not least, to go with my fake tan I need a preg swimsuit. Duh. Until you actually search for a maternity swimsuit, you don't realize how hard it is for a pregger to look somewhat cute on the beach. Most suits are dull and highly unflattering OR they're kinda cute but incredibly pricey. After almost dropping $30 on an Old Navy tankini, I went to the ever-so-promising Ebay. I ended up with a cute Shoshanna tankini, much cuter than the old navy choices this year, and for about the same amount of money. Ok, a slight bit more but I'm hoping it's worth it.

So there ya go. I'm starting to feel like I'm a character out of Shopaholic and Baby, but whatev. If I can't drink cosmos and eat goat cheese at least I have online shopping.

Not my belly

I'm preggers and my husband is an artist, but you will not catch me baring my belly and painting a womb scene on it. Did you realize they sell kits to do this? I wonder if they have beer belly painting kits too? I mean let's not be sexist.

Happy 90th Grandma Aleda!

Just a quick shoutout to Chris' lovely grandma Aleda who turned ninety yesterday and is still goin' strong! May we all be so lucky to live long active lives.

Accessorizing the homestead

For some reason, every time I move I find myself buying a new shower curtain (or in this case two). Why is that? In the past when I bought plastic ones, they'd inevitably get gross and instead of cleaning them I'd just toss them. But now I'm older, wiser, hopefully greener and (I must admit) I've become a shower curtain snob. Not with other people's showers (OPS), but just my own. I must have a fabric shower curtain with a heavyweight top notch liner. Oh and not just any fabric shower curtain will do.

This time around I have a vision of a spa-like retreat for our master bath. If only I had a fancy spa budget...le sigh. But with money being a big deciding factor I opted for a plain white waffle weave shower curtain. Something about white in a bathroom makes me happy. Like white towels. White towels are perfect. You can bleach them if they become dingy, they match most everything and they just scream CLEAN. Believe me, I've tried colored towels, but they're just not as satisfying. But I was talking about shower curtains, wasn't I?

So for the guest bath... what to do with the guest bath??? Right now the bathroom is painted a medium taupe-like brown color. We'll probably repaint eventually to brighten up the space, but for now I'm going to work with it. I considered making the guest bath the baby's bathroom - but I figured there's going to be enough baby paraphernalia lying around the house, I really don't need to bring it into another room (even though the baby bath, towels, etc will inevitably wind up there). SO long shower curtain story short... I ordered one from C2b. See above (of course I had to get the matching green mat - made from bamboo - sorry no pic of that). The bright green stripes make it fun n' funky but it's simple enough to still fit with our modern clean line sensibilities. Oh did I mention that our baby bathtub is a clawfoot? Nice to look at but it's going to be a bit challenging I think. I'll definitely need a stool to sit on and when the baby is walking he or she will need it to just get into the tub. But at least we'll look cute throughout, right? hehe.

Oh just for giggles, here's the bathmat I bought for my spa-zen master bath. It's made from renewable bamboo. I was craving a lovely wooden teak mat, but yoweeee they were pricey (especially for the ones certified as made from sustainable teak forests). This green stuff gets pricey. OK that's all the rambling and run on sentences for the blog today. More soon, I'm sure!
