Join the masses and turn off your lights tomorrow night, March 29th, at 8pm (your local time) to take action on climate change. For more info, check it at Earth Hour. All the cool kids are doin' it.

After a fun day at the beach on Sat, Chris and I came home to a series of unfortunate tornadic events. First: due windy weather and an unlocked back door, our cat Derby got out. Luckily we found him, frightened under our back stoop. Second: stormy winds knocked out our power at 11pm cutting our night short, so much for DVRing SNL. Third: At 12:30am the local emergency siren (which is wicked loud and scary) went off to alert us to a tornado warning. Being that Southerners don't believe in basements, we spent 20 minutes huddled in a hallway in the center of the house wishing we'd bought batteries for the radio. Have I mentioned that I'm terrified of tornados? I think it comes from growing up in California, where tornados were pretty much unheard of. I'll take an earthquake over a tornado anyday.
Maybe it's because tomorrow is the annual St Patty's Day parade, maybe it's because it's 75 degrees out and sunny, maybe I'm in the mood for spring... but I want to make these yummy sounding Lime Meltaway cookies. And once I'm done with my workday I'm going to do just that. They sound easy enough to make and any excuse to whip out my Kitchen Aid mixture makes me happy. Some kitchen appliances are not only fun to use, but this mixer is so awesome that just looking at it brings me joy. I think it's because I wanted one for so long and it really does make baking MUCH easier. Anyways, back to cookies! In case you've missed it, Martha Stewart has been featuring cookie recipes all week on her show to highlight her new cookie recipe book (I need this book). I think after this recipe I'm going to have to make her chocolate mint cookies. mmm. Supposedly better than the girl scout version (I know that's practically blasphemy, but we're talking Martha here, she should know).
Tick tock, tick tock. Everyone's counting down to the big St. Patty's Day festivities here in Savannah. Tomorrow they're dying the fountain in Forsyth Park green at noon, I wish I could be there but I'll be on my way to the airport for my bro's wedding (sorry but I'll take wedding cake over a green fountain any day). But when I return on Monday I'm sure to find green all over town. Supposedly this is an event you have to experience in person to fully appreciate, not unlike Mardi Gras. Over 400,000 people are expected to flock to our fair city to get their Irish on. So where are my out of town friends? I thought for SURE we'd have some houseguests. Come on people, where's the love?
